Christmas trimmings

If you plan early for Christmas you can ensure you make the most of the whole Christmas season. This is a really magical time of year, and, especially if you have children, there are so many wonderful things you can do together to prepare for Christmas and enjoy the whole season of advent.

Firstly, if you can, plan ahead. Shopping online is a great way to take the effort out of Christmas preparation. Set an evening aside. Make yourself a cup of tea or pour yourself a glass of wine. Perhaps play some Christmas Carols in the background. Make a list of everyone you are shopping for and work your way down ordering something for each person on the list. Use this site to give you lots of ideas. Then simply sit back and wait for your purchases to be delivered.

Once you've shopped for all your Christmas presents you can plan some activities to enjoy during advent. Advent calendars are very popular, and don't have to involve chocolate. Advent candles are a lovely way to count down to Christmas. We like to burn ours before bed each evening, and it gives us a precious time to talk, enjoy the Christmas decorations and find a little peace each day during what can be a very hectic time of year. Some advent calendars create a Christmas decoration, or tell the Christmas story. See some other options below.

During advent you can plan some activities, perhaps making Christmas cards, doing some Christmas baking, or enjoying a Christmas film. Baker Ross has a wide variety of children's crafts for Christmas for you to enjoy together. My children have 'advent bags' during the countdown to Christmas, with each one containing a craft activity, Christmas book or occasionally a small gift such as a new Christmas decoration. It really makes December special.
